What is a group?

A group keeps one class together from one game to the next. Students join it once, and after that every game the teacher hosts for the group adds to its leaderboards, homework can be set for them to play in their own time, and the teacher can see how each student is doing.

Students do not need an account to join, and a student can be in several groups, for example one for each subject.

  • No account for students
  • Homework with a deadline
  • Leaderboards over every game

  2. Check the group’s name and picture, choose your name and avatar, and press Join group.
  3. Your group’s page shows a game that is live now, your points and accuracy, and the homework you have to do.

A group through the term

  1. Create the group and give it the class’s name. Without a photo it shows its initials, so Class 5B becomes 5B.

  2. Invite the class. A code on the big screen works for 15 minutes, and a link sent home keeps working until you reset it.

  3. Host group games. When each one ends, every member’s score is added to the group’s leaderboards.

  4. Set homework with a deadline, then see each student’s score, who handed it in late and who has not done it yet.

  5. Look back at every group game, each with its full report.

Group games

A group game is an ordinary live game with a room code on the big screen, but it counts for the group, and when it ends each member’s score is added to the group’s leaderboards.

A student who comes into the room without being a member, such as a new student or one on a different phone, is not left outside: one tap makes them a member and takes them into the game.

Homework

Pick one of your sets and a deadline: tomorrow, in a week, no deadline, or any day and time you choose. Students play it alone, in their own time, with the usual timer on each question.

They can play it again, and their best score is kept. A student can still hand it in after the deadline, and it is marked late.

Leaderboards

Points adds up each member’s scores from every Classic group game. Accuracy ranks the share of questions they got right, once they have answered at least five, so one lucky answer cannot put anyone on top.

Students see only their own place, until you let members see the full leaderboards in the group’s settings.

Members

The Members tab lists everyone in the group, with the day they joined, their points and how many games they have played. A student can be removed, with their results, at any time.

A student who joined twice, from a second phone, can be merged into one: their games and points come together under one name.

Questions people ask

Do students need an account?
No. Without one, their membership is kept on the phone or computer they joined with. A student who signs in keeps it on their account, on any device.
Do teachers need an account?
Yes, to make and run groups, so a group and its history are never lost.
Can a student be in more than one group?
Yes, for example one group for each subject you teach them.
Does homework count on the leaderboards?
No. The leaderboards count live group games. Homework results are on the Homework tab, with each student’s score.
Does editing a set change homework already set?
No. A homework is a copy of the set as it was when you assigned it.
How do I rename or delete a group?
Press ⚙ on the group’s page. Deleting a group removes its members and leaderboards; the reports of its games stay in Reports.
