Why people look for a Kahoot alternative
The player limit is the usual reason. Free quiz platforms tend to cap how many people can join one live game, and the cap is fine until the day it isn’t — a full lecture theatre, a school assembly, a staff training day, a conference session. At that point the game needs a paid plan. Giga Quizzes has no player cap to buy your way past: up to 500 people can play a single game on the free plan, and the largest game hosted so far had 402 players in one room.
The second reason is accounts. Asking thirty teenagers — or a room of adults at a conference — to install an app and sign up before anything can start loses ten minutes and a few people every time. Here a player needs a room code and a nickname, in a browser they already have open.
And the third is that “free” usually has an asterisk. A free tier that hides reports, question types, or group sizes behind an upgrade prompt is a trial with extra steps. This is a free quiz game in the plain sense: build a quiz, host it live for as many people as show up, and read the results afterwards, without a card.
Questions
Is Giga Quizzes a free Kahoot alternative?
Yes. Giga Quizzes is a free, browser-based live quiz game similar to Kahoot and Blooket. Creating quizzes, hosting live games, and having players join are all free, with no features locked behind a paid plan.
Do players need an app or an account?
No. Players join a live game with just a room code and a nickname from any phone, tablet, or laptop — nothing to install and no signup. Only the person creating and saving quizzes needs a free account.
How is Giga Quizzes different from Kahoot and Blooket?
Giga Quizzes runs games peer-to-peer in the browser over WebRTC instead of routing everything through paid servers. That keeps it free, supports up to 500 players per game, and includes all 11 question types at no cost.
Is my data private during a game?
Yes. Because games run peer-to-peer, questions, answers, and scores travel directly between the host’s device and each player’s device, encrypted end-to-end by WebRTC. Gameplay never passes through our servers. What is stored with us is separate: the quizzes and images you save, and the report of each game you host.
Is there a free Kahoot-like website that works for large groups?
Yes. Giga Quizzes allows up to 500 players in a single live game on the free plan, which covers a lecture hall, a school assembly, a conference session, or a company all-hands. Most free quiz platforms cap a live game at a few dozen players and charge for anything larger; there is no such cap here, and no paid tier to upgrade to.
Do I have to pay once more than 40 or 50 people join?
No. The player limit is the usual reason people go looking for a Kahoot alternative, and it is the thing Giga Quizzes deliberately does not charge for. Games run peer-to-peer between browsers rather than through rented servers, so a big room does not cost more to run than a small one.
Can students join without downloading an app or creating an account?
Yes. Players open the site, type the room code and a nickname, and they are in — no app store, no email address, no password, nothing to install. It works on any phone, tablet, Chromebook, or laptop with a browser. Only the person building and saving quizzes needs a free account.
Can I make a quiz without typing every question myself?
Yes, two ways. You can describe a topic and have the questions generated for you, or you can upload a PDF — a worksheet, a chapter, a slide deck — and have a quiz built from what is in it. Both are on the free plan, and you can edit everything afterwards.
Is it only for schools, or can I use it for work?
Both. Teachers use it for lessons and revision, and it is equally used for company training days, onboarding sessions, conference ice-breakers, team socials, and youth or community groups. Nothing about it assumes a classroom — a room code and a screen is the whole setup.
Can I see how each person answered after the game?
Yes. Every game can be saved as a report showing the final standings, how many got each question right, what the most common wrong answers were, and — question by question — what each individual player answered. Useful for spotting the one topic the whole room missed.
Can I set a quiz as homework instead of playing it live?
Yes. You can create a group, invite people to it, and assign a quiz for them to complete in their own time, then see the results together. Live hosting and self-paced assignments are both included at no cost.
What languages does it support?
The interface is available in ten languages, and quizzes themselves can be written in any language — including right-to-left ones such as Hebrew and Arabic. Players see the quiz exactly as it was written.
Is it actually free, or free-for-now with a trial?
Actually free. There is no trial period, no card required, no player cap to unlock, and no feature held back for a paid plan — creating quizzes, hosting live games, reports, and AI-generated questions are all included.
